Ohio General Assembly Done for Year;
OODB Consolidation Legislation Dead! Your Letters Worked to Stall Passage of SB 366, HB 617
The 131st General Assembly came to a close yesterday without taking action on SB 366 or HB 617, the bills that would have consolidated the Ohio Optical Dispensers Board into a Vision and Hearing Professionals Board.The legislation effectively dies and brings an end in 2016 to discussions regarding OODB consolidation.
We thank all the opticians statewide who wrote letters, sent e-mails and called their state legislators to oppose SB 366 and HB 617.As we’ve reported, many legislators were under fire by Ohio associations, including the OAO, which argued the proposed legislation would not better protect the public or save taxpayers money.
While we celebrate this legislative victory, we must remain vigilant in 2017 as the subject of state board consolidation will remain an issue once the 132nd General Assembly convenes in January.The OAO will monitor legislation introduced in the new year and will alert you to all consolidation discussions.
